Here’s a tiny trick with a huge impact 👉 keep a “Put Away” basket in your busiest space, e.g. kitchen or hallway. Throughout the week, pop stray items inside. Then once or twice a week, return everything in one go.

No more endless trips back and forth — and a tidier space by the weekend.

You know that feeling when you walk in the door and don’t instantly trip over shoes, bags and yesterday’s post?

That’s the power of a five-minute system.

Your hallway is the first thing you see when you get home — and the last thing you see when you leave. A simple system here can take you from frazzled to calm in seconds.

Here’s a quick way to organise your hallway so the whole family can stick to it:

✅ 1. Give everything a “home.”
One basket each for shoes, hooks for coats and bags, a tray or wall pocket for post and keys. If it’s easy to use, they’ll actually use it.

✅ 2. Keep it simple.
Don’t overcomplicate it with labels, colour codes or 100 baskets. One or two clear zones is enough — especially for teens or tweens who don’t want to be told what goes where.

✅ 3. Get the kids involved.
Spend five minutes each evening doing a quick “hallway sweep.” Make it a habit — everyone grabs their shoes, bags, lunch boxes or kit. The more they do it themselves, the less you have to nag.

A calm hallway sets the tone for the rest of the house — and it really can take just five minutes a day.
