When people think about decluttering, they often picture bags for the charity shop, trips to the tip or recycling centre and difficult decisions about what to keep and what to let go of.

And yes, that’s all part of it. Decluttering is the physical process of removing the things that no longer serve you. Sometimes it’s straightforward, sometimes it’s emotional, and sometimes it’s a bit overwhelming.

But the reason it’s worth doing isn’t because you’ll end up with a perfectly organised cupboard. It’s because of what comes afterwards.

✨ You stop wasting ten minutes looking for your keys.
✨ Getting dressed becomes easier because your wardrobe only contains clothes you actually wear.
✨ The paperwork isn’t quietly sitting in the corner of your eye every time you walk into the kitchen.

That’s the part I think we don’t talk about enough.

Decluttering creates physical space, yes, but it also creates headspace because it turns down the background noise.

I’m Rebecca, mum to two teenage girls, owner of a very lovable dog called Ottie 🐶 and the person behind the organising sessions you see here.

For a long time I thought my job was helping people declutter and organise their homes.

I know I should do it...
I just don't have the headspace.

I’ve experienced this from both sides. When my mum passed away, nothing was in place, which made an already difficult time incredibly overwhelming.

More recently, when my aunt passed away, things were far more straightforward because everything had been organised in advance.

Curators naturally gravitate towards order and clearly defined systems, and when these are designed well they can create homes that feel calm, considered and easy to maintain. The challenge is that Curators sometimes build systems that are too detailed, which makes them difficult to sustain in busy family homes.

Instead of abandoning structure, the key is to simplify it. Clear labelled storage, drawer dividers and dedicated zones tend to work beautifully for Curators, as long as the system remains realistic enough to maintain on an ordinary day.
